Bad day

Left Villafranca Montes de Oca, Walked 12 k over very rough, mostly uphill terrain, when my right foot gave out. The old broken bones just swelt up and I could not walk on them. I had to take a taxi 17 k. into Burgos a bigger city. I found a room in a pension and rested and soaked my foot and the swelling has gone down and the pain gone away. I will stay here 2 days to rest up.
Burgos is a wonderfull city, the old historic part is central and close by. I have been impressed by other churches but was not prepared for the splendour of the Cathederal. There are many other splendid churches and buildings. Parks, the river, bridges, statues and squares and the people are so vital. Today Sunday was special people all dressed up strolling and there were a lot of communions so they were especialy dressed.
I am going to try walking again tomorrow and hope for the best. I will soon be on the flat landscape of the Meseta and hope the going will be better. I will make up the 17 k on detours and exploring.

Hi Dad,

Once again, your adventures sound wonderful, although I'm sorry to hear that your foot is giving you grief. I certainly hope that it doesn't cause any major difficulties for you while accomplishing this amazing trek.
How's the new watch?
I'm now at the HMCS Protecteur's shore office...my job went from "off the deep end stress" to zero now that I'm off the Regina...the days go much slower though!!!
Anyway, all is good and I can't wait to read your next update. Are you able to post any pics on your Blog?

Take care,

Bil
