on the Camino

Spain never fails to amaze, so old yet on the other hand it is very progressive, there is a very high standard of living here. Went through Burguette where Hemingway used to hang out. Outside of Espinal a ran into a herd of Bovines, I quickly did an inventory of appendeges protruding from their bellies and was relieved to see they were not the famous bulls of Pampalona. Stayed in a delightful inn againhowever it was to noisy in the morning what with the birds, roosters, cows, sheep and dogs. Tough going up up and then down down. There has not been any rain here so the ground is very hard and rocky. I stayed in my first refuge, 38 beds in my room , it was not too bad not many snorers. Problem is every body wants to get up at 6 in the morning and then its noisy, might as well get up.
Spent the next day in Pampalona, another delightful place. I was in the middle of a suare when about 20 vehicles came screaming to a stop and out jumped balaclave wearing people waving machine guns. I thought I was in the middle of a Basque attack, scared the living S*** out of me. Turned out to be the cops on a raid.
My refuge was a convent, no worry about being molested by the sisters.
Next day another very steep climb but the views and towns made up for it. Checked out a Templer church from the year 1000 very simple but moving. I then found myself walking down a Roman road Almost 2000 years old. Then I do not know if it was a reflection on my trip I heard a cookoo bird.

Hey Roger the Dodger:

This I would like to see - no pants and your head shaved. Where are the pictures? That little episode in the square must have had you thinking which way to run, glad it turned out to be the cops. So, have you worn out your shoes yet? You will be so fit when you get back, Liz won't be able to keep up with you. Everything sounds wonderful and not knowing what is around the corner would be very adventurous. Take care and keep an eye on your clothes. Talk to you soon,

The other Liz
